Species: Human

History:
Yang Xiao Long is one of the four members of team RWBY, the titular team of huntresses in training at Beacon Academy. She is seventeen years old, is easily recognized by her long yellow hair (don’t mess with it, seriously), she is right handed, and has lilac colored eyes. Yang is the older sister of Ruby, team RWBY’s leader. While they do not share the same mother, they do share the same father, Taiyang Xiao Long.

Yang never really knew her mother much. She left Yang and her father, Taiyang, when Yang was still rather little. Thus, Yang feels called to scower the world, looking for her mother and hoping to uncover the mysteries that surround her and her disappearance. All that she knows as of now is that her father, her mother, Ruby’s mother, and their uncle, Qrow Branwen, were all on the same team together once upon a time. She is so dedicated to this mission that it has even caused her to make some foolish decisions in the hopes of uncovering some new clues. One time, while they were still both fairly young, Yang took Ruby with her on a search for her mother, only to have them both beset by Grimm. Luckily, they were both saved, but it taught Yang a valuable lesson on responsibility and not losing one’s self completely to a single mission. Especially if it means the possibility of others that you care about getting hurt in the process.

Yang entered Beacon academy in the hopes of becoming a top-class huntress, just like her mother, father and uncle. Her dream is to travel the world, fighting Grimm and taking on challenges as she comes across them. All the while, her desire to find out more about her mother lingers in the back of her mind. Already in her time at Beacon, Yang and team RWBY of successfully fended off several species of Grimm, the feral monsters that inhabit the world of Remanent, including: a death stalker, a King Taijitu, and a Nevermore (three rather strong, fearsome species of Grimm—a giant scorpion, two-headed cobra, and raven, respectively). They uncovered a criminal operation being orchestrated by the criminal Roman Torchwhick, who was utilizing the manpower of the faunist rebel group, The White Fang, to steal powerful military tech and weapons. Seemingly, there plan was to release a horde of Grimm upon the kingdom of Vale. Yang and team RWBY were on the frontlines in repelling the Grimm invasion. With the help of other Beacon Academy teams, they were able to eliminate all the attacking Grimm and even put Torchwhick behind bars.

Still, even on her own, Yang is a force to be reckoned with. She has single-handedly defeated several Ursai and Beowolf Grimm. She has also plowed through an entire club of henchmen, easily besting numerous foes all by herself.

Now, Yang and team RWBY are competing in the Vityl festival. A contest of skill between the huntsmen and huntresses of the various academies around the world of Remnant. They have succeeded in passing through the first two rounds: the full-team, four versus four match, and the partner two versus two match. Yang was selected to represent team RWBY in the coming one versus one match-ups. What awaits her in the coming rounds of the Vityl festival?

Personality:
Despite being step siblings, Yang and Ruby are extremely close. Yang looks out for and cares for her younger sister deeply. However, this does not necessarily exclude her from sometimes ditching her younger sister, when she feels the need to be a little more social with other people… or just using her to avoid awkward social situations altogether. Yang carries her older sister role in team RWBY as well. She cares for each of her fellow teammates, often going of her way to make sure they are okay and lecture them a little when they need it.

Still, she is not always the calmest or most mature member of team RWBY. In fact, she self-identifies as more of a “go with the flow” kind of gal. She tends to stay up-beat and happy, even in the midst of a fierce fight (perhaps appearing even happier at these times). She loves to crack bad jokes, pull pranks, and is easily persuaded to go along with her sister’s sometimes childish and hair-brained schemes (e.g. lofting their dorm beds in not so secure fashion). Yang is all about having fun. If she, or her teammates, are not having fun, then she will look for ways to try and mend the situation immediately.

Yang tries not to let a lot get her down. However, she does have a temper. When her fuse is finally lit, anyone who recently pissed her off better stand back. Her eyes change from their typical lilac shade to red, and her hair crackles with energy, almost looking like it is aflame.

Abilities:
All the huntsmen and Huntresses of Remnant possess an ability that is often singular to themselves called a semblance. While all huntsmen and huntresses have the ability to manifest an aura that protects them from fatal harm as long as it holds, Yang has the added advantage of being able to essentially store energy as she gets hit. Make no mistake, her aura is receiving hits, and she is feeling the force of those impacts. However, as long as she’s still standing, Yang is able to take that energy and then dish it back out double, triple, multiple times stronger as she continues to take hits. Her semblance fades if she loses consciousness however. It does not make her indestructible. Just very tough, and very difficult to beat in prolonged bouts.

Additionally, Yang seems to be able to suddenly channel tremendous amounts of energy when she gets angry. Her eyes change to red, her hair glows and takes on the likeness of fire, and her speed and strength seem to explode tremendously.

To top it all off, Yang is already a fairly skilled huntress. Very skilled in hand-to-hand combat, thanks to training from her father, and especially while she is armed with her iconic weapon, The Ember Celica: two shutgun gauntlets that allow for explosive kinetic rounds to be fired, both long-range and short-range, from her punches. Yang is able to forage for herself in the wild, and track animals and Grimm to a modest degree. Still, Yang is currently a huntress-in-training and has a lot more to learn before she graduates from Beacon and becomes a full-fledged, professional huntress.
